The government prohibited the import of non-essential luxury commodities.
On Thursday, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb declared that the government had banned the import of all non-essential luxury commodities.
The minister told a press conference in Islamabad that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was “working day and night to stabilize the economy.”
According to Aurangzeb, in light of this, it was decided to prohibit the import of all non-essential luxury items. “These are products that are not in use by the broader population,” she explained, naming imported autos as one example.
She announced an “emergency scenario” in which Pakistanis would have to make sacrifices.
