A 10-year-old boy was imprisoned for three weeks.

Authorities claim Daniel texted, ‘I bought this,’ followed by an image of four assault rifles, before texting again, ‘Get ready for water day.’

A 10-year-old boy is being held in a US detention centre after allegedly texting a friend that he had purchased assault rifles.

Daniel Marquez of Florida was detained by a judge for 21 days and charged with making a written threat after his friend’s father allegedly noticed a series of concerning texts and contacted the police.

Authorities claim Daniel texted, ‘I bought this,’ followed by an image of four assault rifles, before texting again, ‘Get it?’

The text was understood to be referring to Water Day celebrations at the child’s school to mark the end of the school year.

The messages were sent four days after a school shooting in Texas that killed 19 students and two teachers.

Authorities claim Daniel suggested in text messages that he would start a shooting at Patriot Elementary School in Cape Coral.

However, his lawyer, Douglas Molloy, stated that the messages were intended to be humorous and were misinterpreted.

According to report, “Daniel was texting a friend and they were going back and forth, a stream of texts about a variety of subjects,” they said.

And within that was what I could see.
