A former prison bouncer in the United States allegedly shot herself.
After a 10-day manhunt, US authorities say they have apprehended an escaped inmate, and a guard suspected of assisting him has died after shooting herself.
Officers reported that murder suspect Casey White, 38, is in prison and that Vicky White (no related), 56, died in hospital after their arrest in Indiana.
On April 29, the two disappeared from a Lauderdale County, Alabama, prison.
They are thought to have had a romantic relationship.
They were last spotted as she was bringing him to a bogus mental health evaluation, according to authorities.
Ms White was on her last day of work before retiring. She had lately sold her house and informed her coworkers that she intended to spend more time at work.
Vicky White died in a nearby hospital late Monday after killing herself during the pair’s arrest, according to the Vanderburgh County Coroners Office.
Following an autopsy, more details about her death are expected to be published on Tuesday.
Casey White surrendered after the couple’s vehicle crashed after a police chase near Evansville, Indiana, according to Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton.

The two were last seen driving a copper-colored Ford Edge with an Alabama license plate, according to the US Marshals Service.
Sheriff Singleton described Casey White, who stands 6 feet 9 inches tall, as “very dangerous” on Monday.
Ms. White, on the other hand, had an impeccable record as a prison guard.
“Vicky was someone I would have trusted with my life. I truly believe that “Chris Connolly, the District Attorney for Lauderdale County, told reporters. “She was our go-to person in the jail when we needed something, and she was a reliable employee. That is why it is so surprising.”
In September 2020, Casey White was charged with murder in the stabbing death of 58-year-old Connie Ridgeway. He had already been sentenced to 75 years in prison for a series of violent offences committed in 2015, including burglary, vehicle theft, and a police chase.
According to officials, he confessed to the murder but later pleaded not guilty due to insanity and was awaiting trial at the Lauderdale County Jail when he vanished.
If convicted, he will be executed.
