Delhi swelters at 49 degrees Celsius.

A severe heat wave has swept over northern India, with temperatures reaching a record high of 49.2 degrees Celsius in sections of the capital, Delhi.

According to reports, this is the capital’s seventh heatwave this year.

Many officials across the country have advised citizens to exercise care.

They warned that the heat could pose a moderate health risk to the most vulnerable, such as infants, the elderly, and those suffering from chronic illnesses.

According to India’s weather bureau, the states of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Bihar have experienced particularly high temperatures in recent days.

Temperatures are expected to drop by 2-4 degrees Celsius in some regions, but there may be little relief from the extreme heat.

This summer, severe heatwaves in northern India have disrupted millions of lives and livelihoods.

As temperatures soared quicker than usual earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi ordered state chief ministers to set up plans to alleviate the impact of excessive heat.

While heatwaves are usual in India, especially in May and June, this year’s summer started early, with high temperatures as early as March – the month’s average maximum temperatures were the highest in 122 years. During the month, heat waves began to appear.
