Forecasters counsel that blood rain will hit Britain within days.

When high concentrations of red-colored dust or particles mix with rain, giving it a crimson tint as it falls, the phenomena occurs.

A yellow thunderstorm warning has been issued for the south-east, including London, from Wednesday evening until early Thursday morning.

“There are some dust concentrations in the sky above the UK at the moment that might easily be washed out in the rain tonight,” Met Office meteorologist Richard Miles said, “but it’s likely to be quite modest amounts on the whole.”

A thunderstorm warning has been issued for the south-eastern third of England tonight, and a squally cold front is expected to bring wind and possibly heavy rain.

“Aside from these features, today and tomorrow will be generally fine and dry, with temperatures reaching 23-24C in London and the South East, and high teens to low 20s elsewhere.”

It comes as Britain’s incredible weather continues, with temperatures reaching 24 degrees today.

Yesterday was the hottest day of the year so far, with the temperature in Heathrow peaking at 27.5°C in the afternoon.

It means the weather was nicer here than in Santorini, where the temperature only reached 26 degrees.

However, for many, the heat was followed by grey skies and nocturnal downpours, and there will be plenty more rain this week.

Between 7 p.m. today and 3 a.m. tomorrow, the Met Office has issued a yellow alert for storms across large parts of the country.

Flash floods, power outages, and lightning strikes have been predicted between Skegness, Lincolnshire, and Wareham, Dorset.

Those travelling tonight are advised to use extreme caution.

After overnight rain and thunderstorms, Wednesday morning has a lot of dry weather with showers clearing northern Scotland.

“More rain is expected to move eastward on Wednesday, with some heavy thundery downpours in certain areas that could turn into severe thunderstorms overnight.

“On Thursday, we’ll be in between weather systems once more.”

He expects “a lot of nice weather” as well as showers in the far south-east as a result.
