Police have evacuated Trafalgar Square in London after a suspicious package was discovered.

Eyewitnesses have reported hearing a loud bang, though this has yet to be officially confirmed.

Sarah Churchill, a tourist with her 11-year-old son Noah in Trafalgar Square at the time, told: “I was in the square when the bomb went off.”

“There were a lot of police, we were about to walk through the square when we got to the corner and saw it was cordoned off,” she explained.

We were speaking with a police officer.

“He said it was a suspicious package, but it wasn’t a controlled explosion, and no one warned us it was about to go off.” “The officer appeared stunned.”

“We could see lots of police and what looked like a bomb squad van, and we were just going to walk down to the Mall to see how everything was set up for tonight, when we found the area cordoned off,” she explained.

Sarah, 38, said the noise of the bomb shook her and compared it to the sound of an IED on the news in Afghanistan.

“It was intensely loud and intensely quick,” she said.

She went on to say that her 11-year-old son Noah was terrified as the crowd of 150 people panicked.
