Camilla’s polite reminder to Kate Middleton after she chatted away at a royal event
Kate Middleton was seen deep in conversation at the Order of the Garter ceremony in Windsor in 2019 – and if Camilla hadn’t reminded her, she might have missed an important part of the ceremony.
The royal calendar is frequently made up of events that occur nearly every year without fail.
One of these is Garter Day at Windsor Castle, which takes place on Monday and features a procession of royals dressed in regal velvet robes and plumed hats.
It has been subject to Covid restrictions for the last two years, so the last time it was held was in 2019.
And it was a very special year.
The Duchesses of Cornwall and Cambridge attended the ceremony, as did Sophie Wessex, Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, and Queen Letizia of Spain.
And it appears that Kate became so engrossed in her conversation with Queen Maxima that they almost missed an important part of the procession.
Fortunately, Camilla was nearby to tap Maxima on the arm and remind the ladies to face forward as the parade passed by – and Sophie was also seen quickly taking her place in the lineup next to Letizia.
Edward III established the Order of the Garter in 1348 to recognize contributions to public service.
The Queen, several senior royals, and 24 other Knights or Ladies who are personally chosen by the monarch for recognition are members of the Order.
