The image of the man blamed of killing a 15-year-old boy while defending his mother from an attack
Over the weekend, Jakub Szymanski was hailed as a hero after it was revealed that he died while attempting to defend his mother, who was also caught up in the ‘ferocious’ attack at their Manchester home.
For the first time, a man accused of murdering a 15-year-old boy who was defending his mother has been photographed.
Suleman Altaf, 44, of no fixed address, is accused of murdering Jakub Szymanski last Thursday at a property on Bednal Avenue in east Manchester.
He is also accused of attempting to murder Jakub’s mother, Katarzyna Bastek, and possessing a bladed article, specifically a knife, in a public place.
Altaf was arrested in Manchester.
Several members of Jakub and Ms Bastek’s families attended the brief hearing. According to report, the case has been adjourned for a preliminary hearing at Manchester Crown Court tomorrow.
Mr Altaf was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
Jakub, 15, was stabbed to death at a house in Miles Platting on Thursday.
Jakub’s family described him as a “funny, cheeky boy” in a police tribute.
“Jakub was known to his family as Kuba and to his friends as Jakub,” they said in a statement.
“Because of his friendly and chatty personality, he was always a popular child, making friends wherever he went.
“He was mischievous, funny, and cheeky, and he always spoke his mind.
