A retired judge was shot and killed at home by a man on the judicial system’s hit list.

Specialist officers tried in vain to negotiate with the attacker at the scene, where they discovered the former judge dead and the gunman with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

It has been revealed that a former judge was shot dead at his home by a man with a hit list of figures “related to the judicial system.”

From 2004 to 2017, John Roemer, 68, was a Juneau County judge. He previously worked as an assistant district attorney and an assistant state public defender.

Police were called to a house in the rural city of New Lisbon, Wisconsin, around 6.30 a.m. on Friday (June 3), following reports of a shooting.

Police then entered the house shortly after 10 a.m. and discovered two people with gunshot wounds, one of whom was deceased and the other who had been wounded by a self-inflicted gunshot.

The injured man was discovered in the basement and treated at home before being transported to the hospital. He is still in critical condition.

“Two individuals were discovered inside the property, one deceased and one with a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” said Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul.

“The suspect appears to have had other targets as well, which appear to be related to the judicial system.”
