A stunned fisherman witnessed a terrifying fight between an alligator and a shark.
David Zinn was fishing with his stepfather off the coast of Port St. Lucie, south west of Orlando, when he felt a strong pull on his line.
Zinn was surprised to discover that he had hooked a young bull shark on his line, and he and his stepfather rushed to remove the hook from its mouth.
However, the situation quickly became dangerous when they came across an alligator as they approached the shark in an attempt to set it free.
They claimed the alligator lunged at them, nearly knocking them both into the water with the creatures.
“Down by the water, a five-foot gator lunged at us,” David Zinn told 9News.
With both of them, we almost fell down the rocks into the water. They caught us off guard, and both the gator and the shark swam away safely.”
According to the Wildlife Conservation Commission, alligator attacks occur seven times per year on average in Florida.
They can be found in the United States off the East Coast and in the Gulf of Mexico.
