Hotel holders are being held after a ‘sewerage line’ explosion in Karachi.
Police have arrested the owners of a hotel in Karachi’s Bilal Colony after nine people were injured in an explosion in a sewerage line upon which the eatery was built, according to Korangi Senior Superintendent of Police Faisal Bashir Memon on Friday.
According to a police statement issued at the time, the explosion caused “the tea hotel constructed on the sewerage line to collapse,” causing “milk and hot water to land [sic] on passers-by.”
Three children were among those injured, according to the statement. However, the statement did not specify whether the injured were bystanders or visitors and employees.
According to the statement, the injured were taken to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital.
SSP Memon confirmed these details, saying that people were having tea on charpoys and chairs and children were playing when the explosion occurred due to “gas accumulation” in the sewerage line.
He stated that none of the injured had life-threatening injuries.
According to the SSP, the hotel was built four to five years ago, and police have filed a case against and arrested the two hotel owners for “negligence.”
The last major incident of this type in Karachi occurred on December 18, 2021, when an explosion occurred in a nullah (drain) beneath a private bank near Paracha.
