After getting too close, a young woman was thrown 10 feet in the air and gored by an angry bison.
An angry bison attacked a woman before throwing her 10 feet in the air.
The 25-year-old woman from Ohio was visiting a national park in Wyoming when she was thrown into the air by the massive beast.
The woman approached the female bison in Yellowstone National Park on Monday morning after it came close to a boardwalk at Black Sand Basin, according to a park statement.
According to park regulations, visitors must stay at least 25 yards away from bison, but the woman got within 10 feet of the animal.
Two other people were also within 25 yards of the same bison, but it is unclear if they were injured.
The woman was gored and thrown into the air after approaching the animal, suffering a puncture wound and other injuries.
Emergency personnel arrived quickly and flew the woman to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center via air ambulance. In her encounter with the bison, she suffered a puncture wound as well as other injuries.
The incident is still being investigated.
This is the first reported incident in 2022 of a visitor approaching the bison and the bison responding by attacking the individual, but there have been numerous similar incidents in previous years, some fatal.
Bison, which can weigh up to 2,000 pounds, have injured more people in Yellowstone than any other animal in the park’s history, despite the park’s warnings.
